We know that learning does not just take place within the four walls of a classroom, so we provide opportunities to support students beyond them! These eye-opening experiences play a vital role in shaping students into well-rounded individuals by providing opportunities for growth and development, real-world application of knowledge, social skills and networking, and deeper exploration of interests.
We fund Stipends for Academic Travel so students can attend events such as Odyssey of the Mind World Finals and SkillsUSA competitions. The benefits of academic travel are invaluable, allowing students to have more cultural and global awareness and experiences that can change the trajectory of their future. Academic travel is especially powerful for students whose families have not had easy access to personal travel experiences. When traveling, they gain a new perspective on their future.
Through a generous partnership with the Tucson Conquistadores, we provide Athletic Fee Waivers for eligible students. This investment has a particularly strong impact on students enrolled in our Title 1 schools. School related athletic programs are one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways for our community’s children to learn a sport and enjoy the benefits of being part of a team. The majority of students in our Title 1 schools request a waiver to play. Our continued partnership has a direct impact on these students’ lives.
We also proudly support two long-standing Summer Programs in Amphi. The Amphi Summer Basketball Camp and the Keeling Summer Fitness Club promote teamwork and personal growth. These opportunities help meet the needs of families in our community by providing a safe, fun place for kids to go during the summer. Students are active, learning, building friendships and making unforgettable memories in these environments.
Each spring, we’re proud to award several scholarships to graduating seniors. For many years, we have offered the David B. Upshaw Future Teacher Scholarship to students who plan to pursue a career in education, celebrating our future change makers! We also offer Amphi Family Scholarships for students who have grown up with a caregiver or parent who is an Amphi employee. In 2024, we introduced a new scholarship provided in partnership with the Cordell Family Education Fund which supports students who plan to pursue a hard sciences major in college. Finally, we offer the Elizabeth Andersen Student Award to seniors at Amphi High, presented by the AHS Class of 1966, in honor of their beloved classmate. In total, these awards now amount to $16,750 in scholarship funding each year.
We proudly support Life Beyond the Books, which brings volunteer professionals in the community into classrooms of Amphi 8th graders to teach valuable life skills, such as how to change a car tire, basic budgeting, civic duty, first aid, customer service, and more. Students are given a relevant item to take home and practice their new skill. The vision of this program is that all students will be self-sufficient and ready for life.
